UK Employment Law
Over the years the UK and EC have passed numerous statutes, orders and rules that apply to employment issues. Some of the most important UK employment law applies to the following topics relating to the issue of discrimination. There are many other statutes that cover a wide range of employment issues in other areas of employment law. :-
- Racial Discrimination
UK employment law makes racial discrimination unlawful. Racial discrimination occurs when a person is treated less favourably than another person on the basis of race, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin.
- Sex Discrimination
UK employment law applies nationally and makes discrimination on the basis of sex, marital status, pregnancy or potential pregnancy unlawful. The rules have wide ranging effects which are not just restricted to sexual discrimination.
- Disability Discrimination
This legislation was passed with the intention of protecting the rights of disabled employees. Complaints about disability discrimination are made to the Employment Tribunal.
- Age Discrimination
Since the passing of this legislation it has been unlawful to discriminate in employment matters on the basis of age which applies to all ages including the old and the young.
